Here is the background. I bought a Foodsaver V2244 to replace my Foodsaver 2840 that started getting slow to create a vacuum. But I found out the 2244 had neither roll cutter nor the roll storage inside the more compact design. Darn. I liked the roll cutter and internal storage. Apparently only the much more expensive models have those features and they seemed bigger than my ailing 2840. It turns out that all my 2840 needed was a new set of rubber gaskets costing $6.99 on Amazon from Darwin Design, " Foodsaver upper and lower gasket assembly replacements". Took out the old gaskets, cleaned out any rubber debris from the old gaskets slots, replaced with new gaskets , no tools needed, a 4 minute job and it works like new again. I should have done that first. If the pump makes the usual sounds but slow to pull a good vacuum, then replace the gaskets.The old gaskets didn't look bad, but must have been because replacing them fixed the problem. It didn't take much of a leak to defeat the suction. As an unintentional bonus the gaskets, long oval foam rubber pieces, come with the rubber in the center of the oval cut out but left in place to protect the gasket during shipping. The rubber makes a great anti-skid base for platters or anything else that might go sliding in an earthquake. Yes, California living

My Foodsaver vacuum sealer, model V3880 would not completely suck out all the air and then seal the bag. The machine has one rubber gasket and one foam gasket, which the manual says are not replaceable. I called Foodsaver customer service and they verified that information. The rep said that I would just need to replace the machine. That sucks. I pretty much determined that the foam gasket was bad and so I purchased these new gaskets, ripped the old one out of the machine (which, by the way, was relatively easy and came out pretty clean), cleaned the channel with q-tips and some rubbing alcohol and put the new gasket in the machine. What did I have to lose anyway? WOW. The machine completes the cycle, vacuuming all the air out and then sealing the bag. $6.99 is soooooo much better than $169.00

I've had my FS (this one) about 5 years and have gone through several roll of bags. It got to the point of not sealing anymore. Thought I needed to purchase a new machine for around $70. Cursing around food savers on Amazon and ran across the gaskets. WOLA!!!!!! Purchased both the upper and lower gasket. Arrived at my home in 2 days. Now, have a new machine. I have a little secret. I go to Wal Mart early in the morning and glean their meet counter. Sometime can hit on some real bargains in marked down steaks. I simply can't purchase the kinds of steak that my wife and I love except what is on sale. I buy several, shrink vac them and they last almost forever. One steak will satisfy the two of us in one meal. -----Just a suggestion!!!! I was always told in grade school "a hint to the wise is sufficient" Learned that from my grade school principal. I am now 80 and still love steak.
